Funeral Notice

 

Ms. Janet Darlene Martin, 81, of LaFayette died Monday, October 6, 2025, at her son s residence in Lafayette, Alabama. A memorial service will be held in Georgia at a later time. 

Janet was born February 25, 1944, in Holly Springs (Georgia). to the late Esther Viola (nee Phillips) and Amos Leon Garmon. She previously lived in Tennessee (Knoxville), and Georgia (Kennesaw, Smyrna, and Acworth). 

She was a former member of Greers Chapel Baptist Church (Kennesaw, Georgia) and Mars Hill Presbyterian Church (Acworth Georgia). For many years, she was the piano accompanist for a male quartet at Mars Hill. 

Her professional life began with a nursing degree from Kennesaw State University. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Kennestone/ WellStar Hospital for 37 years in critical care units, transitioning later to home health and discharge planning. Her focus was always on direct patient care and she positively impacted many lives. 

She was known for her caring heart, love of family and her pets. She enjoyed gardening, travel and square dancing. She had a particular fondness for growing roses and watching wild-life. Bird watching was something she particularly enjoyed - particularly the hummingbirds. 

She is survived by sons Douglas (Angela) Martin, Lafayette, Alabama; David Martin, Kennesaw, Georgia; and, Scott (Jenny) Martin, Hiram, Georgia. She has additional step-children including Randall (Shaunalynn) Schonder, and Roger Schonder. 

Among the survivors she treasured greatly are eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friend.

Knew since 1st grade at Blackwell Elem in Cobb… we sat in home room in 12 th grade and figured we’d go to the same college and be roommates… She was a great roommate… sweet, very smart, ironically, when I returned to Cobb as an Elementary teacher, Doug and Dsvidcwerevin my class… small world…… super lady… She’ll be very missed sending prayers to her family…

I worked with Janet for many years in Home Health. She was a wonderful friend and I enjoyed spending time with her. She will be missed! So sorry for your family’s loss.
