Funeral Notice
Mrs. Brenda Ann Hardnett, 71, of Wedowee died Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, GA. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2023, at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 744 Woodland Avenue NW, Wedowee, at 12:00 p.m. (CST) with Rev. James Gresham, Rev. R. Russell and Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from 11:00 a.m. (CST) until the funeral hour. Public viewing will be Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 6: 00 p.m. (CST) and visitation with the family is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (CST). Public viewing and visitation will be held at Vines Funeral Home.
Brenda was born on June 27, 1952, to the late Reverend Robert Lee Smith and the late Eppie Dovine Smith in Birmingham, Alabama. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. Brenda was the youngest of seven siblings and was affectionately called “Brenda Lou”.
Brenda loved dancing, cooking Sunday dinners for her family, preparing her special “Million Dollar Pound Cake”, macaroni and cheese, fried fish and chicken, and chicken and dressing, and watching the “Reggie Gay” gospel show. She did not miss calling her children and grandchildren on their birthdays to sing the birthday song. Employed at Lamar Manufacturing Company as a seamstress for 30+ years, switched careers and worked for Cheaha Regional Headstart for 17 years as an associate teacher, center director and teacher; part-time store clerk at Main Street Food Mart until her retirement. After retirement, she attended the Wedowee Senior Center and enjoyed being with her friends playing board games and traveling to events.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Randy Hardnett; her three children: Randy JaRodd Hardnett (companion Christie), Wedowee; Ivory Joyce (Stacy) Roundtree, Wedowee and Rev. Anthony Gene (Sheila) Sims of Woodland; one aunt: Flossie Gibson, Anniston; two sisters: Willie Mae Anthony, Gainesville, GA. and Robbia Lea Smith, Huntsville; brothers-in-law; Douglas Hardnett (Cathy), Joe Lee Hardnett (Fannie), Charles Hardnett (Bonnie); sisters-in-law: Minnie Laney (James) and Nell Higgins; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
